The European Commission isn't expecting Germany's rescue package
for General Motors Corp.'s (GM) German Adam Opel GmbH unit to
trigger an antitrust investigation, it said Tuesday.
The commission's spokesman on competition matters Jonathan Todd
said Germany wouldn't have to notify the scheme to the commission
for approval since the loans appeared to be in line with a German
scheme to help struggling companies that had already been approved
by the commission.
More information from Germany is expected shortly, he said. But
"it would not be a notification for approval. It would be giving us
the details to verify that the loan is in line with the (scheme),"
he told a midday briefing.
