First details on the bids presented for General Motors Corp.'s (GM) German unit Adam Opel GmbH may emerge on the weekend, a person familiar with the story told Dow Jones Newswires Thursday.

The evaluation of bids for General Motors Corp.'s (GM) German unit Adam Opel GmbH, should be carried out "quickly", another person familiar with the matter told Dow Jones Newswires Thursday.

The German government is currently evaluating the bids, the person said, adding there is no fixed deadline.

General Motors Europe said late Wednesday Italy's Fiat (F.MI), Canadian autoparts maker Magna International Inc. (MGA) and RHJ International Ltd. (RHJI.BT) are in the running to take over its Opel unit. Germany said it will choose a preferred suitor early next week.
