French Prime Minister Francois Fillon Tuesday said in a written statement that Jean-Ludovic Silicani has been put forward to head France's telecommunications regulator Arcep.

The announcement follows the departure for personal and health-related reasons of Jean-Claude Mallet, who has only held the post for four months.

The French parliament and senate will be consulted before the appointment of Silicani, the prime minister's office said in a statement.

Until Silicani is officially nominated, Mallet will continue as head of Arcep, the prime minister's office said.
