Chrysler Idles Second Canadian Plant Due To Part Shortage

Chrysler LLC idled a second production plant Thursday as the
fallout from a part problem continues to spread.
Production at the auto maker's Brampton, Ontario assembly plant
has been temporarily halted, Chrysler spokesman Dave Elshoff said.
The factory assembles Dodge Challengers and Chargers. Chrysler
idled its Windsor minivan assembly plant Wednesday.
The problem centers on the disruption of engine and transmission
brackets shipments from a plant formerly owned by H.E. Vannatter in
Wallaceburg, Ont., according to union officials who asked not to be
identified because they don't speak for the company. The plant is
now owned by Trans Cast Precision Inc.
Chrysler is attempting to shift production to its Etobickoe
Casting plant in Canada but has warned that other North American
plants may be impacted. It has filed an injunction against
Vannatter and Trans Cast seeking access to the tools the companies
used to make the brackets.
