The European unit of General Motors Corp. (GM) said Monday it believes the Obama administration's cool reaction to the parent company's restructuring plans isn't necessarily a rejection.

"We don't see the reaction as a general rejection, but rather as a request for a revision," a GM Europe spokesman said Monday.

GM Europe, which includes Adam Opel GmbH, also said it welcomed Frederick Henderson taking on the role of chief executive following the forced resignation of Chairman and CEO Rick Wagoner. Henderson, currently GM's chief operating officer, successfully led GM's Europe operations for many years, the spokesman said. "We are looking forward to working together," he said.
