Economics Minister Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg's trip to the U.S. has brought clarity over possible steps to rescue Adam Open AG (AO.YY), a German government spokesman said Wednesday.

"From the Chancellor's view it was a very successful and important trip, which has brought us additional clarity concerning further steps," spokesman Ulrich Wilhelm said.

The minister's meetings with General Motors (GM) and U.S. government officials have "served to bring things forward," he added.

However, Wilhelm said he wasn't prepared to speculate on whether Chancellor Angela Merkel will unveil any rescue measures when she visits Opel in Ruesselsheim March 31. The date of the visit was planned last summer and is unrelated, he said.
