SNM Global Holdings (PINKSHEETS: SNMN) announced the launch of its Biotech Initiatives to coincide with the recent launch by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) of the International Industrial Biotechnology Network (IIBN).

Developing countries wanting to make more of their biotechnology resources are the target of a network launched by the United Nations.

George Tzotzos, IIBN programme coordinator, told SciDev.Net that the network would provide biotechnology support and access to high-level technologies for developing countries wanting to make better use of their existing biological resources.

The IIBN will help local universities and small-to-medium enterprises develop and improve existing biotechnology products. It will also encourage further bio-prospecting. Ivan Ingelbrecht, project manager for the IIBN and based at Ghent University, Belgium, said the network would serve as a catalyst for establishing North-South and South-South partnerships.

SNM Global's MicroTechnology Transfer (mt2) Program and MicroEquity Partner Program enables the acquisition, development, and transfer of technologies that will provide for the betterment of society and provide the catalyst for emerging markets to leapfrog into the sustainable sectors that will drive the twenty-first century. The newly acquired technologies and/or technology groups will be placed in the appropriate stage of the Company's MicroTechnology Transfer (mt2) Program and MicroEquity Partner Program.

In addition to its other vertical sectors, SNM Global Holdings provides international emerging markets with alternative energy, and decentralized power production technologies.
