Louisiana Food Company (OTCBB: LUSI), a purveyor of "Certified"
Louisiana specialty food products, today introduced its newest
product, Pirogue Rice -- a pirogue (pronouced "pee-row") is a
small, flat-bottomed boat associated largely with the Cajuns of the
Louisiana marsh. The addition of this "Certified" Louisiana rice to
LUSI's packaged dry product line nicely rounds out LUSI's
offerings. LUSI's Pirogue Rice will begin to appear on South
Louisiana grocers' shelves and at the company's online store
beginning in October 2011.
Louisiana's long-grain "popcorn" rice is a basmati hybrid
popular for its rich, nutty flavor and fragrant aroma. When cooked,
this variety of rice has fluffy texture, while maintaining a firm
consistency.
"The pirogue is an iconic symbol from our Cajun roots, and is
perfectly associated with our rice offering, given rice's
long-standing position of prominence in Cajun kitchens," said David
Loflin, LUSI's President. "And, as with all of our products, the
Pirogue Rice labeling is an original work of art and offers a
vision of what life on the bayou might have looked like in the
first part of the last century," he added.
The labeling for LUSI's Pirogue Rice carries with it a story
inspired by the history, the culture and the people of South
Louisiana:
With the blistering July sun of South Louisiana baking the
Vermilion River mud onto his weathered cheek, Joe stood, watching
his son's oldest boy, P'tit Joe. "Mais, jamais d' la vie! You gonna
learn to watch out for dem bogs, 'Tit Joe?" "When I get my own
pirogue, Pépère, won't matter then," the boy chirped. "You'll get
that pirogue soon as yur big enough to chop that cypress by the
barn. Now, git up here and push my pirogue down to our side of the
bayou, gotta get that rice home and ready for market," Joe
grumbled. Free from the bog, the youngster raced to the pirogue...

Capturing South Louisiana
From the outset, LUSI's management has believed that the rich
and diverse cultural heritage of South Louisiana would provide a
natural source of inspiration for its product labels. As works of
art, LUSI's product labels capture the movement and energy that is
South Louisiana -- they are "eye-grabbers," and retailer and
consumer response to the labels has been extremely positive.
