PARIS--French power company GDF Suez (GSZ.FR), through its subsidiary Tractebel Energia, Wednesday said it inaugurated a new hydroelectric power plant at Estreito in Brazil.

MAIN FACTS:

- Tractebel Energia is responsible for the operational management on behalf of the consortium that owns the plant and includes Vale (VALE), Alcoa (AA) and Intercement.

- GDF Suez Chief Executive Gerard Mestrallet said Brazil is at the heart of the group's strategy in Latin America.

- GDF Suez sold its 256 megawatt stake of guaranteed energy output in the Estreito plant at the Brazilian power auctions in October 2007, in the form of 30-year term Power Purchase Agreements with distribution companies, starting from 2012.
