Drilling Commences at Dorex's Carmelita Copper-Gold Project, Atacama Desert, Chile
19 April 2008 - 12:40AM
Marketwired
VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA -
The company reports that diamond drilling has commenced on its
100% owned Carmelita property located within the IOCG belt of the
Atacama Desert, Chile.
The company anticipates of up to 1,000-metre NQ core size
diamond drill program of 5 holes that will test at least 4
mineralized zones. Diamond drilling has been contracted to
Geo-Operanciones Ltda, of Copaipo, Chile.
Targets were generated from previously conducted exploration
programs, which included geological mapping, rock sampling, and a
geophysical survey.
The Carmelita property has long history of artisan mining.
Previous exploration completed resulted in Copper grades of up to
4.8%, Gold grades of up to 2.16g/t and Silver grades of up to
85.9g/t, grades greater than 10,000 ppm of Lead and Zinc were also
assayed during the 2007 exploration program.
There is a potential for widespread porphyry or IOCG (Iron Oxide
Copper Gold) style mineralization as well as a smaller, higher
grade structurally controlled shear zone hosted copper oxide
mineralization.
The project will be supervised by Stephen Kenwood P.Geo, a
qualified person under National Policy 43-101.
Other activities in the area:
The Carmelita property is situated approximately 120 km south of
Global Copper Corp.'s Relincho project which has a indicated and
inferred resource of over 1,000,000,000 tonnes of copper at
0.56-0.61 % copper equivalent and total of 9.6 billion lbs of
contained copper. Global Copper Corp. recently announced Relincho
will be purchased by Teck Cominco for $425,000,000. The Relincho
property consists of a large Andean style copper-molybdenum
porphyry system.
As well directly 20 km east of the Carmelita property is
Investika Ltd.'s Puquios Copper Project, which has a resource at
pre-feasibility study of 29,900,000 tonnes @ 0.59% Copper, and the
company is planning a 15,000 tpa open-cut heap leach operation.
Peter Walton President & CEO states "With metal prices at
current levels any significant discovery will improve Dorex's
position as a junior exploration and development company. We are
looking forward to the results and future continuous exploration on
the Carmelita property."
