The Board of Directors of NTI Newmerical Inc. (TSX VENTURE: CFD)
("NTI") is pleased and proud to announce that Dr. Wagdi Habashi,
President and CEO of NTI, has been recently awarded the very
prestigious Killam Prize for Engineering.
The Killam prizes, worth $100,000 each, honor outstanding career
achievements in health sciences, engineering, humanities, natural
sciences and social sciences. "This year's winners epitomize the
broad spectrum of arts and scholarly research," Joseph Rotman,
chair of the Canada Council for the Arts, which administers the
prize, said in a statement. "Their accomplishments are remarkable
in their diversity and their impact on Canadians."
In their citation to Dr. Habashi, the Canada Council for the
Arts and the Killam Foundation state: "Working at the interface of
academia and industry and at the juncture of applied mathematics,
physics, computer science and engineering, Dr. Wagdi Habashi has
devoted his career to tackling, in novel ways, major computational
fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation problems.
Dr. Habashi's revolutionary work in CFD (the science of solving,
via high performance computers, the complex equations that govern
the flow physics of gases and fluids has allowed him to develop
novel simulation techniques for application in industrial settings
- first within the Canadian jet engine and aerospace communities,
and now worldwide. His defining work in engine design permitted
accurate predictions of engine performance, reducing the need to
build prototypes and testing. His pioneering mathematical research
into in-flight ice formation, with its potential for simulated,
real-time responses during icing encounters, is a technological
paradigm change that will increase air passenger safety globally.
The author of some 260 scientific papers, Dr. Habashi serves as
editor-in-chief of the International Journal of Computational Fluid
Dynamics.
In addition to his role as professor of Mechanical Engineering
at McGill and his post as NSERC - Bombardier - Bell Helicopter -
CAE Industrial Research Chair for Multidisciplinary CFD, Dr.
Habashi has established and directs the McGill CFD Laboratory and
created and was till 2007 first Director of the CLUMEQ
Supercomputer Center funded twice by the CFI for a total of 45.5
million$. He serves as Research Fellow of Pratt & Whitney
Canada, consults for many companies, and heads up Newmerical
Technologies International, a company he established to develop
software and provide services for multidisciplinary applications of
CFD.
A Fellow of the Academy of Science of the Royal Society of
Canada and of the Canadian Academy of Engineering, Dr. Habashi has
received many illustrious awards, including the Steacie Fellowship,
the Cray Gigaflop Award and the British Association Medal for Great
Distinction in Mechanical Engineering.
The Directors, Management and Employees of NTI present their
heartfelt congratulations to Dr. Habashi on this unique recognition
of his scientific talents and on his dedication and determination
to bring novel scientific ideas to the field of aerospace. They are
proud to be part of his team and to be contributing through NTI to
global aerospace safety and efficiency.
