Voluntarily Initiates the Recall of Shedd's Country Crock Macaroni & Cheese Side Dishes That Mistakenly Contain Home Style Mashed Potatoes - Code # 2740072531 Unilever United States, Inc. is voluntarily recalling one code of Country Crock Macaroni & Cheese Side Dishes, because it may contain undeclared egg whites. People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to eggs run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products. The recalled Country Crock Macaroni & Cheese Side Dishes were distributed in the Southeast and Northeast United States and reached consumers through retail stores. The affected Country Crock Macaroni & Cheese Side Dishes have a UPC code of UPC # 2740072531, and are stamped with a Use By date of Nov. 29, 2005. The product comes in a 22 oz. plastic tub container with a cardboard sleeve. It is generally sold in the meat case or the deli section of your local grocery store. No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this problem. The recall was initiated after it was discovered that product containing eggs was distributed in packaging that did not reveal the presence of eggs. A thorough investigation indicates the problem was caused by a temporary breakdown in the production and packaging processes of a third party manufacturer. In this case, limited numbers of Home Style Mashed Potatoes Side Dishes (which contain egg) were incorrectly labeled with a Macaroni & Cheese Side Dishes label, which does not list eggs. Consumers who have purchased Country Crock Macaroni & Cheese Side Dishes and find mashed potatoes in the container are urged to return it to the place of purchase for a full refund. Unilever is working with the U. S. Food and Drug Administration in implementing this voluntary recall and has notified all affected distributors and retail customers, as well as the Food Allergy Network.
