JMP Group Inc. (NYSE:JMP), an investment banking and alternative asset management firm, announced today that Alex Gauna, Peter Martin and Allan Rimland have joined JMP Securities, JMP�Group�s broker-dealer subsidiary, as managing directors. Mr. Gauna and Mr. Martin are both San Francisco-based equity research analysts, focused on the semiconductor industry and the healthcare services and healthcare real estate industries, respectively. We believe in the value of expanding our research platform in the current environment, rather than retrenching, and are pleased that Peter and Alex will take part in that growth.� Prior to joining JMP, Mr. Gauna served as an executive director and senior research analyst at UBS, where he covered the semiconductor industry from 2001 through 2007. Mr. Gauna was previously a managing director and senior research analyst at Banc of America Securities and an associate research analyst at Prudential Securities. Before starting his career in finance, he worked as an electrical engineer developing hybrid electric vehicles at a California-based startup and at Toyota�s headquarters research and development park in Aichi, Japan. Mr. Gauna holds an MBA from the Anderson School of Business at UCLA and a BS in electrical engineering and computer science from the University of California, Berkeley. Before joining JMP, Mr. Martin was a portfolio manager at hedge fund Matthes Capital, where he focused on sectors including healthcare services, medical devices, real estate and business services. He was previously a portfolio manager at Presidio Management. From 1997 through mid-2003, Mr. Martin was a managing director and senior research analyst at Jefferies & Co., where he followed the senior housing industry and established the firm�s coverage of the knowledge services industry in 1999. He formerly worked as a research associate at Montgomery Securities and began his finance career at Franklin Templeton as a securities analyst. He holds an MBA from the University of San Francisco and a BA from the University of California, Santa Barbara and has earned his chartered financial analyst designation. Prior to joining JMP Securities, Mr. Rimland was a managing director for seven years in the healthcare corporate finance group at Wachovia Capital Markets, where he led the healthcare services investment banking effort and executed more than 75 transactions with an aggregate value of approximately $85�billion. Beforehand, Mr. Rimland served as a managing director in the healthcare corporate and investment banking group at Banc of America Securities. He previously held investment banking positions at Morgan Stanley, NatWest Markets Group and Smith Barney. Mr. Rimland holds an MBA degree from the University of Chicago and a dual undergraduate degree in finance and management policy and computer science engineering from the University of Pennsylvania.
