Fifteen Forest City shopping centers around the country are seeking entries for this year’s Project Style contest, an award-winning fashion competition that allows participants to show off their unique style and have a chance to win thousands of dollars’ worth of prizes, including a trip to Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York City.

Fashion experts Jeannie Mai and Nick Verreos will visit some of the shopping centers to help find the next Project Style winner, who will be chosen in a National Style Off competition later this year. Mai is best known as the host of the two-time Emmy nominated How Do I Look? program on the Style Network. She also appears frequently as a contributor on NBC’s Today Show and E! News, and is the social media correspondent for NBC’s Fashion Star. Verreos’s fashion design label NIKOLAKI has been worn by some of Hollywood’s top celebrities, has appeared as a fashion expert on the Bravo, E!, Style and TV Guide networks as well as competing on Season Two of Project Runway.

“It’s exciting to see the originality and creativity of the customers who shop at our centers,” said Jane Lisy, senior vice president of marketing, Forest City Commercial Management. “We are delighted to provide a forum for these chic stylists to show off their trendsetting ideas, built around items they find at the fashion retailers within our shopping centers. Last year, we received approximately 48,000 votes for Project Style 2011, and the International Council of Shopping Centers honored us with a Gold Maxi award, the highest award presented for excellence in retail marketing programs.”

The contest is open to guys and girls aged 13 and up. Entering is free and easy. Aspiring stylists can visit a participating Forest City shopping center’s website beginning April 19, 2012, fill out the form and upload a photo that best represents their personal style. There is a limit of one entry per person per month.

Each shopping center will select two monthly semifinalists based on the overall style, personality and creativity represented by their entries. Each semifinalist will then receive a $150 mall gift card to purchase items to combine with one personal item from his or her wardrobe to create a trendsetting outfit. Online voting by the public will determine which semifinalists will get to compete in the shopping center’s live Style Off in September. Each of the four monthly winners, along with a wild-card entry based on number of votes, will receive an additional $200 gift card to be used at the mall to create another outfit for the Style Off. A panel of judges will determine the winner.

The 15 winners of the regional Style Offs will then compete in a National Style Off. Each regional winner will receive a $1,000 mall gift card, as well as another $200 gift card to create a trendsetting outfit for the National Style Off. Judges, including Mai and Verreos, will select the national winner in October.

One Grand Prize winner will receive a trip for two to New York City during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in February 2013. This includes attendance at a runway show and a tour of SoHo with escort Verreos, a $500 credit card and a personal fashion design sketch by Verreos.
