Television Over Phone Lines LAKE OSWEGO, Ore., May 16
/PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Tut Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:TUTS), an
industry leader enabling the delivery of next-generation data and
video services over broadband networks, today announced that it
will showcase its MPEG-4 Advanced Video Codec High Definition (AVC
HD) compression at the Telecommunications Industry Association's
(TIA) GLOBALCOMM(TM) 2006 convention at McCormick Place in Chicago,
IL on June 5-7 (Booth #77048). The company believes that its MPEG-4
AVC HD transcoding solution will be a first in the IPTV industry.
MPEG-4 AVC HD compression is critical for IPTV service providers
seeking to deliver pristine quality High Definition Television
(HDTV) over copper access networks. While today's MPEG-2 HDTV is
compressed to approximately 19 Mbps, service providers will see
bandwidths below 10 Mbps with MPEG-4 AVC HD transcoding in Tut
Systems' carrier-class Astria(R) content processor (CP) product
line. This is a critical threshold for ensuring that IPTV service
providers can deliver HDTV over advanced DSL networks that are
limited to bandwidths below 15 Mbps. By implementing unique
transcoding functionality in the world's most deployed IPTV headend
solution, the Astria CP improves quality and reduces the amount of
equipment required to deliver MPEG-4 AVC HD content in a
field-tested, reliable platform. The Astria CP's MPEG-4 AVC HD
transcoding capability will be available for initial customer
delivery at the end of the second quarter of 2006. "At Cavalier
Telephone, we view HDTV as a critical element of our Broadband TV
video package," said Brad Evans the company's CEO. "With Tut
Systems' MPEG-4 AVC compression technology, Cavalier will deliver
the high definition image quality that our customers are
expecting." "Service providers around the world are seeing
increased consumer demand for innovative service offerings like
high definition television and our a MPEG-4 AVC transcoding
solutions will make such services a reality for companies like
Cavalier Telephone that are looking to deliver HDTV over copper
networks," said Sal D'Auria, Chairman, President and CEO of Tut
Systems. "Our continued success in the IPTV market will only
accelerate as we deliver our MPEG-4 AVC HD transcoding product to
IPTV service providers in 2006." In addition, Tut Systems' booth at
GLOBALCOMM will highlight: -- The latest in MPEG-4 AVC standard
definition compression technology including encoding and
transcoding from MPEG-2; -- IP forward error correction for the
delivery of flawless video over IP networks; -- The highly scalable
Astria VSP which will showcase digital simulcast applications for
the conversion of IP video to digital and analog RF for delivery
over FTTx and coaxial cable networks. The Industry's Leading IPTV
Platform for Telcos More than 160 service providers across five
continents deliver IPTV powered by Tut Systems digital headends.
The Astria family of video processing platforms, which serves as
the core of the company's digital headend solution, processes both
analog and digital video streams from multiple satellite and local
sources in a variety of formats. The Astria CP supports MPEG-2 and
MPEG-4 AVC video compression, local ad insertion, forward error
correction and provides real-time conditioning for distribution of
video and audio over any ATM, IP, or RF broadband network. The
Astria VSP provides the highest density, carrier class, single
chassis product for the delivery of IP video over RF broadband
access networks, including coax and FTTP (Fiber to the Premises).
