Company's Focus on Safety Pays Off in Strong Finish at ATA National
Championships; Jevic Professional Driver Places in Top Three
DELANCO, N.J., Sept. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- For the second year in a
row, Jevic Transportation driver Scott Stoudnour has placed among
the top three drivers nationwide in the 5-axle division of the
American Trucking Association's National Truck Driving
Championships (NTDC), held in Salt Lake City, UT this past August
18-21. The NTDC, now in its 67th year, is the industry's most
prestigious professional driving competition, and is considered by
many to be the "Super Bowl of Safety." Hundreds of drivers from all
over the country vie for national titles in their respective
divisions. Each takes part in a driving test, written exam,
pre-trip inspection test, and personal interview, all designed to
assess a driver's safety knowledge and ability to apply that
knowledge where it counts - on the road. Jevic is a major sponsor
of the NTDC and long-time industry safety leader. "Safety is a top
priority, and in particular we devote a great deal of time and
resources to ensuring driver safety," said Jevic President and CEO
Paul J. Karvois. "We require each of our driver applicants to meet
a rigorous set of safety, experience, and personal qualifications.
The hiring process is critical." Scott has been driving with Jevic
for 12 years and has over two million accident-free miles in his 26
years of professional driving. On average he logs about 125,000
miles each year on his route, driving between Pennsylvania and
Ohio. To get to the Nationals, Scott had to compete and take first
place at the state level, which he did in May of this year. He won
the Pennsylvania five- axle division for the second straight year.
In addition, he took the championship at his company's own
professional driver "Rodeo" held at the Jevic headquarters in
Delanco, NJ, in May. According to Scott, the competition this year
at the Nationals was even tougher than last. "Because I'd been
there before I knew what to expect, but it was pretty intense," he
said. "Last year there were only three drivers within reach of the
top spot coming out of the driving test. This year there were ten
of us. It kept things exciting, that's for sure." "We are proud of
Scott's accomplishments at the NTDC, and equally proud of his
performance on the job, day in and day out. Both reflect our
commitment to safety and the standards of excellence that we uphold
every day here at Jevic," added Karvois. Jevic Transportation Inc.
