The Nebraska Online Voter Registration application (NEReg2Vote) proves itself a successful tool, providing voters the opportunity to update their information online using a PC, tablet, or mobile device. Analytics report that in the 2016 calendar year 141,397 voters successfully completed the process of registering and/or updating their information, which makes a citizen prepared to vote, specifically 42,585 new online registrations and 98,812 edits to existing voter information. 80 percent were new users engaging with the application for the first time. 58 percent used their mobile device, which makes it easy to edit on the go.

“We are very pleased that the online voter registration system provides access to registering and editing voter information. Benefits to the citizen and government include greater accuracy and completeness of applications; elimination of paper forms and mailing costs; helpful optional information from registrants to improve cross-checking and verification; ending digital entry of data by county election officials for online registrations; compliance with state law of required signatures on applications by use of driver’s license signatures of applicants; and more immediate access by election officials to the new electronic registrations compared to mailed applications,” said Brent Hoffman, President of Nebraska Interactive.

NEReg2Vote, is a bi-lingual application and was launched by the Nebraska Secretary of State’s office on Sept. 22, 2015, to coincide with National Voter Registration Day. The interactive system securely records the input information from the user, then validates this information with the Nebraska Department of Motor Vehicles. Confirming eligibility, personal information validation, current address, contact information, and party affiliation are a few of the items that can be edited by the voter and updated online 24 hours a day on a PC, tablet, or mobile device.
