Office of the State Inspector General Receives
Second Award for Improving Efficiency Through Technology
The Virginia Office of the State Inspector
General’s new Auditor Training Portal was recognized with a 2016
Governor’s Technology Award in IT as Efficiency Driver – Government
to Government category. Presented to honorees on behalf of Governor
Terry McAuliffe at the Commonwealth of Virginia Innovative
Technology Symposium (COVITS), the prestigious award recognizes
public sector technology projects that improve government service
delivery and efficiency.
The portal was also recently recognized in a
nationwide voting process by members of the state and local
government IT community with a 2016 StateScoop 50 Award for IT
Program of the Year. The award honors innovative technology
initiatives and solutions helping to improve efficiencies and
effectiveness of state or local government.
The Office of the State Inspector General
(OSIG) is a leading provider of professional internal audit,
finance, and information technology security training agencies in
the Commonwealth of Virginia. Recognizing the costs and
inefficiencies of using outdated legacy technologies and manual
processes, OSIG partnered with digital government services provider
Virginia Interactive (VI) to streamline its training program and
class registration process by launching the new mobile-friendly
online Auditor Training Portal. Agency auditors can now easily
search and register for training courses, make payments, and track
their education certifications online.
The portal also includes an administrative
component offering improved capabilities, including the ability to
manage course and instructor information, track registrations and
class activity, view reports, deliver automated messaging and
reminders, and conveniently generate printed course materials and
certificates.
“Making life convenient and simple for citizens
and agencies of the Commonwealth is our mission,” said VI General
Manager, Travis Sarkees. “OSIG is a wonderful partner to work with
so naturally we are ecstatic for them to be recognized with both
awards.”
Results for the agency include the elimination
of pre-printed evaluation forms and course completion certificates,
improved data accuracy and reporting, a simplified self-service
customer experience with 24/7 availability, and significant
efficiency gains with reduced work effort.
