Volunteer Iowa launched a newly redesigned website which serves as the central hub for information on service and volunteerism in the state of Iowa. The website, which can be found at www.volunteeriowa.org, uses a responsive design enabling visitors to use their smartphones or tablets with the same functionality as visitors using a desktop computer.

“The new, user-friendly website will allow us to better tell the stories of service, promote quality resources, and provide a portal for connecting individuals and groups with volunteer and service opportunities,” said Adam Lounsbury, Volunteer Iowa Executive Director. “Keeping our website up-to-date with the latest technology while providing user-friendly functionality is important to us, especially with the increasing dependence on mobile devices in today’s culture.”

Users can access information about Volunteer Iowa’s many programs, resources and initiatives, including the Iowa Mentoring Partnership, AmeriCorps, and the Service Enterprise Initiative. Visitors can also easily find the latest volunteering and service news, research and resources.

The website was redesigned in partnership with Iowa Interactive, LLC, of Des Moines. Volunteer Iowa and Iowa Interactive operate under a self-funded model in which no additional tax dollars were used to develop or maintain the website.

The Volunteer Iowa website is the thirteenth state agency to implement Iowa Interactive’s content management system (CMS). In addition to the CMS product, Iowa Interactive manages the state’s official Web portal, Iowa.gov, and specializes in other online government applications.

About Volunteer Iowa (or Iowa Commission on Volunteer Service)

Volunteer Iowa and its partner agencies work with organizations and individuals on three main fronts. The first is to help agencies develop quality programs that use service as a strategy to fulfill their missions and address Iowa’s greatest areas of need. The second is to help engage Iowans in their communities by promoting service and expanding the volunteer base. Finally, the third area of work is to connect individuals with appropriate service opportunities by building the volunteer infrastructure. More information is available at www.volunteeriowa.org.
