New online service improves public safety and
access to driver status changes
The Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) launched the nation’s
first Driver Record Dashboard, accessible at
www.accessidaho.org/itd/monitoring. The new information tool serves
as a comprehensive, interactive driver’s license record monitoring
service for small to medium business fleets.
The new online dashboard provides a convenient alternative to
the process of looking up driver’s license records manually. In
addition, the service is designed to increase public safety and
help companies mitigate risk, as it flags monitored driver’s
records with convictions or suspensions so organizations can keep
high-liability, potentially dangerous drivers off the road.
“This new information tool provides immediate access to driver
status changes for all classes of licenses. It also enables
employers to more easily comply with federal requirements,” said Ed
Pemble, ITD driver services manager.
Prior to Driver Record Dashboard, there was no simple way for
small and medium companies to track or access data, especially
information needed for federal requirements compliance.
Companies can build and manage an unlimited roster of driver’s
licenses by entering each driver’s name, license number, and/or
birthdate in one online location. Driver records are checked
automatically twice a month for new convictions and suspensions.
Flagged licenses are available for immediate, secure viewing by
authorized personnel within each participating organization via
individual usernames and passwords.
In addition, medical certification issue/expiration dates and
commercial driver’s license expiration dates are also available for
viewing.
ITD is hopeful the service will also drastically reduce the
significant number of phone requests it receives for medical
certificate information.
The subscription-based service costs $10 per month for access,
28 cents per month for each license monitored, and $9 for each
driver’s license record pull following a conviction or suspension.
An annual $95 Access Idaho subscription is required, with no
additional charge for current subscribers.
“Employers will quickly realize the value and convenience of
this service,” added Pemble.
The application underwent thorough testing by users at a bus
company, a utility company, and several motor carriers, however it
is available to any organization that hires drivers licensed in
Idaho.
ITD partnered with Boise-based Access Idaho to build and
maintain the service. The partnership operates under a self-funded
model in which no tax dollars or state funds were used.
