Appellate Courts records now available to the
public through the popular online service
The Nebraska Judicial Branch is making Nebraska Supreme Court
and the Nebraska Court of Appeals case information available to the
public through the court’s online court case search system. Using
the appellate case search feature, individuals are now able to
search cases and view filed briefs, motions, and other documents in
both the trial and appellate levels of court.
“Adding Supreme Court and Court of Appeals case searches to our
online system allows users to follow a case from beginning to end;
from the first court filing through the final appeal. We appreciate
all of the work that has been done to add this service,” said State
Court Administrator Corey Steel.
Searches are designed to be user-friendly and convenient. Once a
case is located, users are able to retrieve case details and view
scanned images of documents.
The system was created through a partnership between the
Nebraska Judicial Branch and Nebraska.gov under the direction the
Nebraska Supreme Court’s technology committee, chaired by Justice
William Cassel. Cassel stated, “This is the next step in our
implementation of a totally paperless, horizontally and vertically
integrated case management and information system. Electronic
copies of court files have recently begun flowing from the trial
courts to the appellate courts. The filed documents and case entry
information at the appellate level are now available to litigants,
lawyers, and the general public via the Internet. The next step
will be to enable litigants and lawyers to electronically file
briefs, motions, and similar documents in the appellate courts in
much the same way that electronic filing is now done in the trial
courts. I am hopeful that this next feature will be added by the
end of this year.”
All case searches are available through a standard subscription
to Nebraska.gov.
The Nebraska Judicial Branch online services suite also
includes:
Court Case Searches: Search case history in all county,
district, and separate juvenile courts by party name.
Court Case Payments: Make payments on civil, small
claims, criminal, traffic and juvenile cases, including fines,
court costs, judgments and probation fees.
Court Hearing Calendar: Find hearing dates, times and
room numbers for trial courts (also available for iPhone and
Android).
Court Electronic Filing: Electronic filing is available
to Nebraska attorneys in several types of cases. Over 30,000
documents a month are processed through the online service.
