Searching for a job just got easier with
WorkInTexas.com
Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) recently partnered with
Texas.gov to develop a mobile-friendly version of WorkInTexas.com,
TWC’s online job-matching resource. Job seekers can now access the
most frequently used features of WorkInTexas.com from a mobile
phone or tablet and enjoy the same satisfying experience as they
would when accessing it from a desktop computer.
This project marks the first time Texas.gov has worked with a
government agency to make its website mobile-friendly. Instead of
developing a separate mobile application, which would have been
expensive and required a longer development process, Texas.gov and
TWC chose a responsive design solution. Using responsive design
patterns, WorkInTexas.com is functional on all desktop, mobile, and
most tablet platforms. When a user visits WorkInTexas.com, the
screen resolution is detected automatically and the correct page
layout is presented.
Before the new site was launched, many mobile device users had
difficulty navigating and interacting with WorkInTexas.com. Now,
the application provides a much-needed simple and secure mobile
option for job seekers. “Responsive design is a very desirable and
reliable technology for creating mobile-friendly websites,” said
Erin Hutchins, Director of Portal Operations at Texas.gov
“Texas.gov is at the forefront of mobile technology for government,
and we are pleased to partner with TWC to deliver this solution to
thousands of Texans.”
In addition to benefitting users, the new WorkInTexas.com site
will also be much easier for TWC to maintain. Any changes that the
agency makes to the desktop version will automatically appear in
the mobile view as well. There is no need for TWC to maintain
separate code bases, which enables the agency to reap the benefits
from this efficient, cost-effective responsive design solution.
