- Award-winning new toy provides glimpse of the 'future of play
today' - NEW YORK, Feb. 17 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- With visions
of a battery-free toy future, Corgi International, one of the
world's leading toy-makers, today unveiled a revolutionary fuel
cell powered remote control car at the American International Toy
Fair(R) in New York City. The H2Go combines classic playability
with zero emissions energy technology, engaging the user in the
quest to diminish reliance on fossil fuels. Power for the H2Go is
delivered by an on-board hydrogen fuel cell, where sun and water
supply renewable, clean energy for unlimited play. This
revolutionary innovation does not require disposable batteries,
which often contain toxic materials such as cadmium, lead and
sulphuric acid. The H2Go's packaging is made from recycled
materials to further reduce the carbon footprint. In addition, the
car boasts an eye-catching aerodynamic design thanks to acclaimed
designer Professor Luigi Colani. "Today marks a new chapter in the
global toy market," said Michael Cookson, CEO of Corgi
International. "The H2Go is not only a fascinating real-working
fuel cell powered radio controlled toy that can be refuelled using
plain water, but marks a change in how the toy industry will need
to transform and adapt to a clean energy future." Cookson
continued: "Our children are the future, and I am delighted that
together Corgi International and Horizon can launch a product like
the H2Go that offers not only great entertainment and playability
but also has fantastic educational value. Discovering fuel cell
technology and being able to fill the car's refuelling station with
plain water is an important part of the play experience." This U.S.
unveiling comes on the heels of the Nuremberg International Toy
Fair where the H2Go was awarded the 2008 Toy Award in the
"Electronics & Technology" category. Corgi International and
Horizon Fuel Cell Technologies, a global leader in fuel cell
development, teamed up to produce the H2Go, and plan to continue on
the quest to develop and produce a range of new toys using hydrogen
fuel cells. "The H2Go is not only setting the pace for a new
generation of toys, but is also acting as a compelling example for
other industries of the opportunities to be gained from innovative
clean energy fuel cell technology," said Taras Wankewyz, CEO of
Horizon Fuel Cell Technologies. "Corgi's H2Go will bring fuel cell
technology out of the laboratories and into millions of homes
around the world." A cleaner environmental future The compact H2Go
set features a refuelling station, a solar power panel, a
hydrogen-powered, radio control car and remote control. Adapting
Horizon's fuel cell technology to the toy car, consumers need only
add plain water to the refuelling station, which is the source of
the car's power. The refuelling system was designed to provide
continuous playability, by generating power for the car in less
than four minutes. Powered by solar energy, the refuelling station
splits water by electrolysis into its two basic elements, oxygen
and hydrogen, which is captured for use as power for the car. When
the car is turned on, the on-board fuel cell produces an electric
current from hydrogen, which in turn powers the motor and the back
wheels. History-making and designed for the future Designer
Professor Luigi Colani was responsible for giving the H2Go a look
as futuristic as the green energy technology inside the car. With
his work on global brands such as Ferrari and Alfa Romeo, Professor
Colani is familiar with making history, having designed the world's
first monocoque car as well as being behind the first sports car to
drive around the Nurburgring circuit in Germany in less than 10
minutes. Michael Cookson, CEO of Corgi International added: "The
H2Go is undoubtedly an important milestone in the toy industry and
a genesis in the step towards a fully sustainable global toy
market, but it makes no compromise in terms of playability. H2Go is
the first of a new range of toys to be launched under the brand
name H2Go. We are proud to once again be at the forefront in
helping shape the future of play today." About Corgi International
