Advanced Digital Information Corporation (Nasdaq:ADIC), the leader
in Intelligent Storage(TM) solutions for the open systems market,
today announced that it has expanded the maximum capacity of its
Pathlight VX 650 enterprise disk backup solution by more than 50%
and added support for the new Scalar i500 intelligent midrange tape
library. The larger capacity Pathlight VX 650, which now provides
up to 71.5TB of usable storage, will allow enterprise IT
departments to backup and retain more of their data on a single
disk backup resource to facilitate rapid file restores. The
expanded library support also allows end users to build integrated
disk-tape backup environments that leverage the highly scalable
architecture of ADIC's new midrange, rack-mountable Scalar i500
tape library platform. "Enterprise IT managers continue to struggle
with the job of providing data protection in the face of rapid data
growth," said Bill Britts, ADIC Executive Vice President for
Products, Sales, and Service. "We know that the optimal solution
for different data sets is disk, tape, or a combination of the two
technologies -- which is why ADIC continues to expand its backup
solution options. Greater disk capacity in our Pathlight VX virtual
tape library lets users grow their disk tier to handle more data
for increased performance and fault tolerance, while new library
platform support allows them to expand their overall backup system
flexibly and to better manage their ongoing costs." Designed for
high performance enterprise environments, ADIC's Pathlight VX 650
disk backup solution merges the performance and reliability of disk
with the value, capacity, and portability of tape in a single
system. Pathlight VX 650 presents its disk capacity as a tape
library to applications, so it fits easily into traditional backup
and restore processes. To support users' needs for higher
capacities, compliancy, disaster recovery, and long-term retention
requirements, Pathlight VX 650 creates physical tapes in attached
tape libraries. The tape creation process takes place outside the
backup window and off the users' backup SANs and servers, allowing
users to retain their investment in backup infrastructure as they
add disk technology to their backup process. ADIC also announced it
would add its new midrange tape library, the Scalar i500, to its
list of libraries supported by Pathlight VX 650. The Scalar i500
was designed to make backup more reliable and easier to manage in
midrange data center environments. It is the first midrange library
to use ADIC's iPlatform(TM) architecture and iLayer(TM) management
approach to provide advanced integrated management functions while
eliminating the need for external library control servers and
software. It is also the first midrange library to combine
flexible, modular scalability with a single, continuous robotics
system to meet the needs of users from smaller workgroups through
midrange data centers. It is also the first midrange library to
integrate SMI-S support, allowing it to be managed directly by
third-party SRM tools. In addition to the Scalar i500, Pathlight VX
provides integrated tape creation with ADIC Scalar(R) 24, Scalar(R)
100, Scalar(R) 1000, Scalar(R) i2000, and Scalar(R) 10K libraries,
along with legacy IBM 3584, and StorageTek L180 and L700 models.
The new Pathlight VX 650 models are available from ADIC and ADIC
channel partners now. About ADIC Advanced Digital Information
