Start of harvest in southern operations
Landkom International PLC (AIM: LKI, "Landkom" or "the Group"),
the Ukrainian producer of agricultural commodities, has started its
2011 harvest in the Group's southern operations, on schedule.
The harvest has started in good weather conditions and
approximately 5,000 hectares of barley and wheat are expected to be
harvested during the next two weeks.
The Group has also leased 11 new combine harvesters and
reequipped its existing machinery with specialist rapeseed
attachments, to ensure that its harvest can be completed as
efficiently as possible.
This increases the number of the Group's own machines from 21 to
32 combines, which will reduce the Group's reliance on hired
equipment.
Improved terms have been agreed with the suppliers of 34
additional combines which will be hired, so that Landkom will get
priority over other farms and no machinery supplied will be more
than four years old.
This gives the Group a total harvest fleet of 66 combines
available for the barley, wheat and rapeseed harvests in all its
operations.
Vitaliy Skotsyk, Landkom CEO said:
"Our harvest has started on schedule and in good weather
conditions. Our new equipment will enable us to harvest more land,
more efficiently, putting us in a good position for a successful
harvest season."
