Results of Elections of the 2006 Shares



Pursuant to the Proposals valid elections or deemed elections were received as
follows:



- Holders of 580,867 2006 Shares elected to receive shares in British Portfolio
Trust plc;



- Holders of 573,605 2006 Shares elected to receive shares in The Allianz PIMCO
Sterling Total Return Fund; and



- Holders of 18,918,592 2006 Shares elected (or were deemed to have elected) to
receive cash.



Terminal Asset Value of the 2006 Shares



The Terminal Asset Value per 2006 Share is 174.7708p as at the Calculation Date.



Bonus Issue and Reclassification of 2006 Shares



A Bonus Issue, of new 2006 Shares to 2006 Shareholders on the basis of sixteen
new 2006 Shares for every one existing 2006 Share, was effected with effect from
7.30 a.m. today.  With effect from 8.00 a.m. today, each of the 2006 Shares was
reclassified into Reclassified Shares in accordance with the elections made.



It is expected that the Proposals will become effective, and the 2006 Shares be
cancelled, with effect from 8.00 a.m. on 13 October 2006.



Defined terms used in this announcement bear the meanings set out in the
circular to shareholders dated 21 August 2006.
