Sappi international shareholding increases to 60%

Sappi Limited said today that foreign shareholding in Sappi has now
surpassed the 60% mark following strong buying from American and other
international institutions in recent weeks.

An estimated 37% of the shares are now held by US shareholders and 23% by
European and other foreign shareholders.

"We are very pleased with this development as it indicates strong confidence
in our group from investors. There has been a lot of international buying
over the last few months and our shares are now widely held, with no
institution holding more than 8%," said Sappi Chairman Eugene van As.
