PR Newswire (US)
SANTA CLARA, Calif., Sept. 17 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Overview
McAfee is announcing ePolicy Orchestrator 4.0, redefining the way
security and compliance are managed. McAfee is unveiling a series
of firsts. McAfee is announcing a Security Innovation Alliance
designed to help third party technology companies integrate with
ePO 4.0. McAfee currently has 30,000 customers using ePO to manage
nearly 54 million endpoints. Q: What is McAfee announcing on
September 17th? A: McAfee is announcing two things: 1) McAfee is
releasing ePolicy Orchestrator 4.0 (ePO), the fourth generation of
McAfee's award-winning security management technology. ePO 4.0
provides powerful unified management across multiple security and
compliance products as well as and reporting and auditing features.
2) McAfee is unveiling the Security Innovation Alliance program
designed to help technology partners easily integrate their
products with ePolicy Orchestrator. This move is designed to ease
the integration burden for customers, while expanding McAfee's
ecosystem. Q: What are the problems that customers are facing? A:
Security products traditionally were point products that, once
installed, provided protection with little or no need for full-time
administration. In recent years, integrated and well-managed
security and compliance products have become paramount for
customers as new threats and regulations made it increasingly
difficult to correlate information needed for effective and timely
response. Q: How do McAfee's products address these problems? A:
McAfee has listened to customer feedback and is releasing a product
that redefines security management: -- McAfee ePO is the first and
only platform that manages systems, networks, physical and virtual
machines -- McAfee ePO is the first and only platform that lets
organizations centrally manage security and compliance products
from multiple vendors, not just those offered by McAfee -- McAfee
ePO offers unprecedented cost savings -- Other security companies
are playing catch-up -- McAfee's competition (Symantec and Sophos)
are just now launching single console/agent for system threat
management McAfee developed its approach to security risk
management to ease the burden on IT operations. ePO is a key
component of that approach. McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator 4.0
introduces new capabilities in reporting and policy assignment that
can significantly reduce costs and enable increased threat
protection and compliance management. Significant feature additions
include: -- Web-based access to customized, roll-based console --
Dashboard-based custom configurable reports that can be scheduled
and e-mailed -- Workflow enhancements to improve operational
efficiency, integrated reporting across system and network security
environment, and enable knowledge-driven security for more
effective and efficient security decisions Q: How do these "series
of firsts" translate into business value? A: Because ePO reduces
security exposure, lowers costs, insures business continuity and
helps customers meet industry compliance requirements. The
integration of security and compliance solutions provides the
backbone for intelligent security, by allowing applications to
react automatically based on rules. This intelligence will allow
businesses to save time and resources. Q: What is ePO's
relationship to McAfee Total Protection? A: ePO is the central
management console that is included with McAfee Total Protection.
Q. Why did you launch the Security Innovation Alliance? A: McAfee
is launching its strategic partnership program to enable partners
to easily integrate with ePO. SRM is a heterogeneous challenge, and
McAfee is working with its technology partners to deliver on the
promise of security intelligence and compliance optimization. The
McAfee Security Innovation Alliance is the foundation of the McAfee
technology ecosystem, established to increase the customer value of
McAfee security risk management solutions. Working together across
the Security Innovation Alliance, McAfee and its technology
partners deliver on the promise of security and compliance
optimization. Q. How is this different from what you announced in
June? A. In June, we announced the public beta of ePolicy
Orchestrator 4.0. Now, we are announcing the product's
availability, along with the Security Innovation Alliance, a new
program that will speed the integration of third-party
applications. Q: What is the competitive advantage of this
approach? A: This is the first product to offer intelligent
security and compliance optimization that delivers measurable value
rather than just added cost. We break the tie of expense to value
by reducing exposure, lowering cost, and insuring business
continuity. Symantec claims to have a small footprint on the client
but McAfee found out that SYMC uses various processes and actually
eats up nearly four times as much memory as they claim. Symantec is
now using the same engine for consumers and enterprises. The
businesses get the same engine used in Norton 360. So, is SYMC
making businesses pay big bucks for a beefed up consumer product?
McAfee has enterprise class products that are specific for the
enterprise. Q: What is the primary customer segment? A: This
solution is for all enterprises. Q: What Other Security Risk
Management Products does McAfee offer today? A: McAfee offers a
full line of products for managing threat protection and
compliance. We continue to work towards integrating all of our
products into a seamless security risk management portfolio. Q: How
do McAfee partners benefit from today's announcements? A: Selling
McAfee products is a differentiator. Partners can build services
around best of breed products backed by the leading dedicated
security company. There are huge service opportunities, including
the ability to offer risk assessments, installations, deployments,
data discovery, policy tuning and more. With ePO installed on more
than 50 million endpoints, there is a big opportunity to sell into
the McAfee installed base. The new Security Innovation Alliance
will allow technology partners to integrate their applications with
ePO. Channel partners will be able to sell third party products,
alongside McAfee products, with the assurance that the products
will interoperate. Q: When will this product be available? A:
McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator is available from September 25th. Q:
