No deadline has been set for the future of General Motors
Corp.'s (GM) Adam Opel GmbH and no decision about an investor for
the German carmaker has been made, a German government official
said Friday.
"There is no pre-agreement regarding individual interested
parties, which are currently named in media reports. The talks are
continuing," Steffen Moritz, spokesman for the economics ministry,
told reporters. "There are no time guidelines, dates as to when to
expect certain decisions - such a deadline doesn't exist, at least
from the federal government."
The comments come after press reports said Fiat SpA (F.MI) is
close to a deal with Opel. The Italian carmaker's Chief Executive
Sergio Marchionne has said he is open to giving Opel "a hard look"
but said Fiat has "nothing to announce" regarding those
reports.
Media reports also said that Austrian-Canadian automotive
supplier Magna International Inc. (MGA) and Russian car
manufacturer Gaz Russia (GAZA.RS) are working on a bid to take a
majority stake in German automaker Opel.
