Intec breaks into China market with new interconnect billing contract
April 1st, 2003: Intec Telecom Systems, a global provider of Operations Support
Systems (OSS) for fixed, wireless, and IP networks, has signed its first deal in
China for its InterconnecTTM solution with China Telecommunications Broadcast
Satellite Corporation (ChinaSat), one of the country's major telecommunications
operators. InterconnecT, the world's leading intercarrier billing solution with
over 60% global market share, will be used to manage interoperator billing and
to support the rollout of new services for China's fast growing subscriber base.
"This deal is significant for us in two ways," said Kevin Adams, Intec's CEO. "
It is our first deal in mainland China, now the world's biggest and most dynamic
telecommunications market. Through working with one of the leading state-owned
operators in the country Intec will gain commercial exposure to promote its
products and services to other Chinese telecoms companies. Secondly, the fact
that InterconnecT was selected above other products in a competitive evaluation
is a further testament to the product's reputation for market leadership and
next-generation capabilities."
InterconnecT is a sophisticated and scalable solution, capable of billing for
everything from basic telephony billing to complex IP and next generation
technologies. ChinaSat will be able to use the solution for any type of billing
scenario, maximising its return on investment.
"Through this agreement Intec has created a solid footprint in the region and is
ready to become a major player in the future," said Aaron Low, Intec's manager
in China. "In the long term we are looking to convert this win and the
partnering agreements we have created into future Intec customer relationships.
As China's operators prepare for new technologies such as next generation
services, there will be a growing need to invest in OSS solutions with proven
support for more complex revenue generation scenarios."
InterconnecT's growing list of customers in Asia includes many tier one
companies such as Indosat and Telkomsel Indonesia, Maxis Malaysia, FarEasTone
Taiwan and VSNL India. A major advantage that Intec offers to Asia region
customers is world-class service and support through its Asia-Pacific Centre of
Excellence in Kuala Lumpur.
"We have built a strong partnership with a local Chinese consultancy, SuperWay
in Beijing, and this combined with our strong local Asian presence was key to
winning the contract after a competitive tender process," explains Asia Pacific
regional director John Rocca. "In the past six months Intec has begun to make
real progress in China and start building relationships with both customers and
partners. This is a groundbreaking first deal for us and hopefully just the
beginning of new opportunities in the Chinese market."
