International Business Machines Corp. on Thursday said it has agreed to acquire Turbonomic, "an Application Resource Management and Network Performance Management software provider based in Boston."

Turbonomic provides software that "simultaneously optimizes the performance, compliance and cost of applications in real time," IBM said.

IBM also said the acquisition complements the "recent acquisition of Instana for application performance monitoring and observability, and the launch of IBM Cloud Pak for Watson AIOps to automate IT Operations using AI."

Rob Thomas, Senior Vice President, IBM Cloud and Data Platform, said, "IBM continues to reshape its future as a hybrid cloud and AI company." He added, "The Turbonomic acquisition is yet another example of our commitment to making the most impactful investments to advance this strategy and ensure customers find the most innovative ways to fuel their digital transformations."

Financial details of the deal, which is expected to close in the second quarter, weren't disclosed.
