Chevron Corp.'s Chevron Technology Ventures made a Series C
investment in Blue Planet Systems Corp., which uses carbon capture
technology to create synthetic limestone sand and gravel used to
make carbon-neutral concrete.
The companies also signed a letter of intent to collaborate on
potential pilot projects and commercial development.
Blue Planet uses flue gas-captured carbon dioxide. "Distinct
from some other industrial carbon capture and utilization
technologies, Blue Planet's process does not require CO(2)
purification and enrichment prior to use which can reduce cost and
unit energy consumed during capture," Chevron said.
In December, MDU Resources Corp. unit Knife River Corp.
announced an investment in Blue Planet. Blue Planet said in
September that it raised $10 million from "leaders in the war
against climate change."
