Siemens Energy AG said Monday that it has signed an agreement with the government of Afghanistan to develop the electricity supply in the country.

The German energy company said that the agreement will focus on developing a power system which will incorporate renewable energy generation, with the goal of establishing Afghanistan as an energy hub in central Asia.

The agreement--which was signed in Abu Dhabi at the presence of Siemens Energy's chief executive and the president of Afghanistan--comes after a 2019 memorandum of understanding between the company and the Afghan government.
