Beiersdorf AG said Thursday that it would cooperate with Werner
& Mertz to foster the use of recycled plastic for cosmetics
packaging across the industry.
The two companies have developed a standard to use mechanically
recycled plastics obtained from the German "Green Dot"
waste-collection system, the maker of personal-care products
said.
In collaboration with the Fraunhofer Institute for Process
Engineering and Packaging, the companies have drawn up an inventory
of existing recyclates--material that is processed by
waste-recycling plants--on the European market.
"By comparing these data with the requirements for cosmetic
packaging, it was possible to define a standard...to help recycling
companies and manufacturers," German company Beiersdorf said.
Results of the analysis will be published in the fall,
Beiersdorf said.
