Enel Green Power SpA said Tuesday that its subsidiary EGP India has been awarded the right to sign an energy supply contract for a 420-megawatts solar project in India.

The Rome-based renewable energy company said the contract, which has a duration of 25 years, was awarded under the 2 GW Ninth Tranche at a national solar tender issued by the Solar Energy Corporation of India Ltd.

The solar plant, which would be the first in the country, will involve an investment of about $180 million, according to Enel Green Power. It is expected to start operations at the end of 2021.

The company said the facility will be able to generate more than 750 gigawatts hour of renewable energy per year.
