RWE AG (RWE.XE) said Thursday that it is closing its Aberthaw B
coal-fired power station, citing challenging market conditions in
the U.K.
The German energy company said the proposed date of closure for
the 1,560 megawatt power station in Wales is March 31, 2020.
RWE employs around 170 people in Aberthaw, and will now begin
consultations with staff and representatives, it said.
The company said it will transfer Aberthaw's capacity market
agreements for the years through 2021, mostly to third parties but
also to other units within its fleet.
The decision to close the station will help the company toward
its goal of reducing its CO2 emissions, it said.
