E.ON SE (EOAN.XE) said Tuesday that it will provide U.K. customers with renewable electricity across all its tariffs without increasing charges.

The German utility said it will supply a large proportion of the power through its own renewable-generation capacity and purchase agreements with independent wind generators.

Where E.ON can't directly supply renewable power, the company plans to match the amount supplied through non-renewable sources with guarantee certificates. The certificates, issued by solar, wind or biomass producers, ensure an equivalent amount of renewable electricity is produced.

"Climate change is the defining issue of our era, and one that energy customers are increasingly concerned about," said E.ON UK's Chief Executive Michael Lewis.
