ORLANDO, Fla., Nov. 14, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The
National Health Care Anti-Fraud Association (NHCAA) today announced
that David S. Popik, Senior Director of the Special
Investigations Unit for Florida Blue
has been elected as the 2018 Chair of the NHCAA Board of
Directors. Popik succeeds Rick E. Munson, Vice President
of Investigations at UnitedHealthcare.
Popik joined Florida Blue in 2012
and leads the efforts of its Special Investigations Unit in the
prevention and detection of fraud, waste and abuse, including the
referral of cases to law enforcement for possible prosecution.
In addition to serving on the NHCAA Board for the last four
years, other anti-fraud leadership roles held by Popik include
serving as Co-Chair for the Data Analysis and Review Committee
(DARC) of the Healthcare Fraud Prevention Partnership (HFPP), Chair
of the Medical Identity Fraud Alliance (MIFA), Chair of the Fraud,
Waste and Abuse Governance Committee for Florida Blue, and Chair of the BlueCross
BlueShield National Anti-Fraud Advisory Board (NAAB).
Popik has amassed more than 26 years of health care fraud,
operational and investigative experience. Prior to joining
Florida Blue, he spent more than
seven years with UnitedHealth Group and OptumInsight, where he
served as Director FWA Operations for the Northeast and Southeast
Regions. He has also worked in fraud investigations at
TriCenturion, LLC as Manager of the Health Care Fraud Investigation
Group and Palmetto GBA (Blue Cross Blue Shield South Carolina) as
Senior Investigator.
Popik has earned NHCAA's Accredited Healthcare Fraud
Investigator (AHFI) designation and is also a Certified Fraud
Examiner (CFE). Earlier in his career, Popik spent several years
with the South Carolina Highway
Patrol and prior to that, the United States Marshal Service.
