Shareholders in Peugeot SA and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV on Monday approved the car makers' merger.

At Peugeot's extraordinary general meeting concerning the auto makers' planned tie-up--which will lead to the creation of combined company Stellantis--more than 99% of the votes approved the resolutions for the combination.

As for Fiat Chrysler, a company meeting also saw more than 99% of votes cast in favor of the merger.

France's Peugeot and Italian-American Fiat Chrysler expect to complete the merger early this year.
