Both Certification Programs – CMP® and SCMP® – Now Meet Specialized Global Standard

The International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) announced that its professional development initiative, the Global Communication Certification Council (GCCC), has received a second international accreditation, this time for its Strategic Communication Management Professional® (SCMP) certification program. This recognition follows last year’s similar accreditation for the Communications Management Professional® (CMP) designation.

The GCCC’s two programs are the only communication certification programs in the world developed to conform to ISO standard 17024, which is the benchmark for organizations providing certification of individuals. Both certification programs have now achieved accreditation in ISO standard 17024 following a rigorous, years-long process, including written and on-site evaluations of compliance conducted by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI).

“Businesses can be more successful through strategic communication that deepens understanding, inspires action and has measureable outcomes,” said Danielle Bond, chair of IABC’s governing body. “Organizations that hire GCCC-certified professionals ensure that their communications colleagues are committed to those goals.”

The GCCC certifications signify that a holder has met the criteria of education, professional training, experience and knowledge of the field as determined through a standardized examination. The CMP® is designed for communication professionals established in their careers and looking to demonstrate their competence, while the SCMP® is for highly-skilled professionals practiced in providing strategic communication counsel to an organization's leadership. Since 2015, more than 290 people have received one of the GCCC certifications.

IABC provides additional career development opportunities through its Career Assessment tool, the Career Roadmap, and training courses. The GCCC’s certification programs are available to both IABC members and non-members. More information and upcoming exam dates can be found at https://gcccouncil.org.
