Eni SpA said Thursday that it filed a request to Italian prosecutors to pay 11.8 million euros ($14.1 million) in order to settle an investigation related to some of its activities in Congo.

The Italian oil-and-gas major said the move comes after a Milan court reduced the alleged offence to undue inducement from international corruption.

"Eni adhered to the hypothesis of agreed sanctions submitted by the public prosecutor, and has submitted its request," it said.

The company added that the settlement doesn't represent an admission of guilt but aims to avoid continuing a legal process that would entail further expenditure of resources.
