BT Group PLC said Tuesday that it has appointed Adam Crozier as its next chairman and that he will step down as chairman at online fashion retailer ASOS PLC as a result.

Mr. Crozier, a former chief executive of ITV PLC and Royal Mail PLC, will join BT's board as an independent nonexecutive director and chairman-designate with effect from Nov. 1 and will become chairman with effect from Dec. 1, when current BT Chairman Jan du Plessis will retire, the British telecommunications group said.

BT said Mr. Crozier is currently chairman of Whitbread PLC, ASOS and Kantar Group Ltd., but he will step down as ASOS chairman on Nov. 29. Mr. Crozier also serves as a nonexecutive director of Sony Corp., but will step down at the end of the year.

ASOS later confirmed that Mr. Crozier intends to leave at the end of his three-year term of office, and that the process to find a new chairman has started.

BT in March said Mr. du Plessis would be retiring from his role later this year, once a replacement had been appointed. Mr. du Plessis joined BT's board in June 2017 and was appointed chairman in November of that year.
