Volkswagen AG said Friday that first-quarter deliveries rose, driven in part by fully electric vehicle sales and growth at Traton SE.

The German car company's deliveries increased 7.5% over the prior year period to 2.04 million vehicles, it said.

Sales of fully electric vehicles, or BEVs, grew 42% to 141,000, helped by easing supply-chain problems, Volkswagen said. Most of those BEVs were sold in Europe, which saw a 68% jump over the previous-year period.

The company had higher sales in every region except China, where sales fell 14.5% compared with last year's first quarter, and Central and Eastern Europe, where sales fell 5.8%, it said.

Traton, the truck and bus producer under Volkswagen's umbrella, was responsible for the fastest growth with a 25% increase in deliveries to 84,600, Volkswagen said.
