Volkswagen AG said Tuesday that Scott Keogh, head of its North American business, will lead the car maker's new Scout brand company as it ramps up its electric strategy in the region.

Mr. Keogh has been named president and chief executive officer of newly established Scout, which is planning all-electric pick-ups and rugged sports-utility vehicles for the U.S. market, said Volkswagen.

Pablo Di Si, executive chairman of Volkswagen South American Region, takes over Mr. Keogh's role as president and CEO of Volkswagen Group of America, and CEO of Volkswagen North American Region. The appointments are effective Sept. 1.

"In their future positions, they will be pivotal in seizing the historic market opportunities in the U.S., taking our growth strategy in the region to the next level," said Volkswagen Group CEO Herbert Diess about the two managers.

The car maker said it plans to have more than 25 battery-electric vehicles models for American customers by 2030.
