Equinor ASA said Tuesday that Michael Lewis will resign from the board of directors as of Thursday to avoid potential conflict of interests following his appointment as chief executive of Uniper SE.

Mr. Lewis was named CEO of German energy company Uniper earlier this month, but his start date hasn't yet been announced.

Equinor said it will begin a search for a new board member.
