RAC plc - Notification of Major Interest in Shares

On 18 December 2003, RAC plc received notification from Schroder Investment
Management Limited ("SIML"), under the obligations imposed by Sections 198 to
202 of the Companies Act 1985 that, together with affiliated companies Schroder
Investment Management North America Inc ("SIMNA Inc") and Schroder Unit Trusts
Limited ("SUTL") and subsidiary company Schroder Investment Management North
America Ltd ("SIMNA Ltd"), it had a notifiable interest in 17,750,294 Ordinary
25p shares of RAC plc (registered, or to be registered in the names set out in
the Schedule below) representing 15.033% of the issued share capital of RAC plc.

Schroders plc, the holding company of SIML, SIMNA Inc, SUTL and SIMNA Ltd, is
deemed to have an interest in all of these shares, which are held in portfolios
managed on a discretionary basis for clients under investment management
agreements.
