ABB Ltd. said Wednesday that it will install its energy efficiency technology at Poland's Polski Koncern Naftowy Orlen SA's petrochemical complex, Olefin.

The Swiss industrial company said its distributed control system--ABB Ability System 800xA--will help Orlen reduce its carbon emissions and maximize return on investment at the new Olefin III complex the oil giant is building in the Polish city of Plock.

The technology will help Orlen monitor and analyze plant productivity, maximize asset performance, manage power consumption, ensure product quality, and optimize process efficiency in real-time, ABB said.

Orlen, which is targeting a 33% emissions reduction in power generation by 2030, will be able to use the data to make energy savings by keeping tight controls over raw material consumption, plant energy levels and waste byproducts, ABB said.

ABB said it would also provide the complex with several safety systems, including a Burner Management System, an Emergency Shutdown System and High-Integrity Pressure Protection System.
