ABB Ltd. said Thursday that it has won a contract worth around $120 million to supply the electrical system to a natural-gas project offshore Australia.

The engineering company will provide the electrical power system to the Jansz-Io compression project off the northwestern coast of Australia, operated by Chevron Corp. and with subsea-compression technology provided by Norway's Aker Technology Co.

The order is booked in the current quarter, ABB said. Work will start immediately, with ABB to provide the majority of electrical equipment both topside and subsea. The subsea compression system at Jansz-Io is expected to be completed in 2025, the company said.
