--Microsoft Corp. moved forward with its previously announced layoff of 10,000 employees on Thursday, cutting jobs at its Surface, HoloLens and Xbox segments, according to a report from Bloomberg.

--The cuts to the HoloLens unit, which makes augmented-reality and mixed-reality headsets, throws into question whether the business will produce a third iteration of its goggles beyond a planned version for the U.S. Army, Bloomberg reports, citing unnamed sources.

--The software giant didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.

--Microsoft is among several tech heavyweights laying off thousands of workers in response to the global economic slowdown. The job cuts, announced last month, marked the company's largest set of layoffs in more than eight years.
