--Microsoft Corp. moved forward with its previously announced
layoff of 10,000 employees on Thursday, cutting jobs at its
Surface, HoloLens and Xbox segments, according to a report from
Bloomberg.
--The cuts to the HoloLens unit, which makes augmented-reality
and mixed-reality headsets, throws into question whether the
business will produce a third iteration of its goggles beyond a
planned version for the U.S. Army, Bloomberg reports, citing
unnamed sources.
--The software giant didn't immediately respond to a request for
comment.
--Microsoft is among several tech heavyweights laying off
thousands of workers in response to the global economic slowdown.
The job cuts, announced last month, marked the company's largest
set of layoffs in more than eight years.
