Veraz Enhances Softswitch to Facilitate the Migration of Intelligent Networking and PSTN Signaling to IP

Business Wire
Veraz Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: VRAZ), a leading global provider of
IMS-based IP softswitch and media gateway solutions, today
announced the availability of its latest release of its
ControlSwitch Interconnect. Rather than maintain duplicate
networks, service providers can now lower costs by migrating
Intelligent Network (IN) service platforms as well as PSTN
transport and peering signaling to IP. Additionally, advanced
Quality of Service (QoS) routing improves revenue assurance through
the enforcement of network-wide agreements. In the initial stages
of the transition of the public voice network to IP, the focus has
largely been on migrating the voice transport links and voice
switches, said Shirley Hunt, Strategic Analyst at Frost &
Sullivan. As a switch and transport network migration to IP
proceeds, it is no longer cost-effective to rely on the traditional
signaling networks, service databases and service platforms that
are used by traditional voice switches. The ControlSwitch-IC is an
IP softswitch that provides a smooth migration path from existing
PSTN voice networks to IMS by enabling the interconnection of any
mix of traditional and IP-based voice networks. Major enhancements
include: New Directory Services Element: The element adds
application layer capabilities, enabling the transition of IN-based
services to IP which improves operational costs and flexibility of
the services themselves. For example, large databases containing
hundreds of millions of numbers such as screening databases for the
National Do Not Call Registry and number mapping databases such as
nationwide local number portability and telephone number mapping
(ENUM) can be migrated over to IP. Advanced QoS-based Routing
Module: This module allows service providers to meet custom service
level agreements (SLAs) by measuring network quality fluctuations
and dynamically enforcing network-wide routing policies. It also
improves revenue assurance by being able to charge a premium for
meeting priority levels of service. New Signaling Element: The
element lowers the cost of signaling by enabling the efficient
backhaul of PSTN signaling over IP via M3UA, an industry standard
signaling transport protocol. The ControlSwitch-IC can now connect
directly to standards compliant IP signaling gateways and IP based
STPs thus enabling operators to avoid the cost of separate PSTN
signaling backhaul networks. Additionally, to simplify the move to
direct IP peering between service providers the ControlSwitch-IC
now supports industry standard IP signaling that preserves
important information from traditional PSTN SS7 signaling that for
example, identifies how a video call travels across different
carrier networks. As service providers transition to IP, Veraz
makes the transition easier, preserving both functionality and
investment in legacy SS7 infrastructure, while enabling a
fundamental shift to IP, said Doug Sabella, CEO of Veraz. Whether
by increasing protocol support, IN based services or adding
intelligence into routing policy, Veraz is committed to providing
service providers with what they need to be competitive in todays
communications landscape. ControlSwtich-IC supports PSTN signaling
backhaul over IP based on the Message Transfer Part 3 User
Adaptation (M3UA) protocol, an industry standard. SIP-I is a
supported industry standard which is used to support direct IP
peering between carriers in a way that preserves traditional PSTN
signaling. About Veraz Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: VRAZ) Veraz
(www.veraznetworks.com) is a leading global provider of IP
softswitches, media gateways and digital compression products that
enable voice, video and other multimedia services. Wireline,
broadband and wireless service providers in over 50 countries have
deployed Verazs IP product suite to transport, convert and manage
voice and multimedia traffic over both legacy and IP networks.
Veraz products allow service providers to quickly and efficiently
migrate from traditional voice networks to all-IP, fixed-mobile and
multimedia networks consistent with emerging IMS standards. This
